Review: Ghost Rider

I watched Ghost Rider tonight, and I have to say I’m actually quite impressed.

I didn’t know whether it would be any good, and I have to admit it was somewhat far-fetched in places (but then, it’s a fantasy storyline, based on a Marvel comic, so I guess that’s allowed!), but overall it was very good.

Nicolas Cage put in a rather good performance as the Ghost Rider, alongside the rather aesthetically pleasing Eva Mendes.

Ghost Rider

The basic storyline is that a stunt motorcyclist  named Johnny Blaze finds that his father Barton Blaze has a terminal cancer, and he accepts a pact with the Mephistopheles, giving his soul for the health of his beloved father. But the devil deceives him, and Barton dies in a motorcycle accident during an exhibition.

Later, Johnny is visited again by Mephistopheles, who offers to release his soul if Johnny becomes the fabled, fiery Ghost Rider, a supernatural agent of vengeance and justice, and defeat his evil son Blackheart, who wants to possess one thousand evil souls and transform hell on earth.

As Ghost Rider, Johnny will be normal during the day, but at night, when near evil, he becomes a super-powerful fiery character, and his motorcycle becomes a mean-looking machine indeed, flaming along with him, and seemingly possessing some kind of ability to ride itself at times!

Your soul has been tainted by the blood of the innocent. Look into my eyes and feel their pain!

  1. Saw it on Friday, very good special effects and good right up until the very end where it went the way of most hollywood drivel.
