Hey thanks for this info.
I do data recovery using linux. I often attach a group of raid drives for recovery and figure out the arrangements and then when I reboot linux puts them in a different order.... Grrrr...
This will help.
If you need a recovery you can find me at alandatarecovery.com

Hi there, Please excuse the dumb question, but rest assured that I am not being intentionally stupid. Just bought lightroom, and trying to get myself organized. I followed the link to this article from the one where you describe your storage solutions. So if your catalog and images are both stored on an external hard-drive (let's call it drive Z), how does an automatic daily backup of your computer's files onto an external drive help with the task of backing up drive Z? If Z is connected to my laptop (let's say with eSata), will a standard backup program of my computer (using a USB external drive) also backup the Z drive data? I wouldn't have thought so....but then I've never tried. I just use Windows own internal backup software at the moment. Perhaps you don't explain how to backup an external drive because any fool would know, but I'm not just any fool! Thanks for your patience.

As well as their own online backup provisions, I also found it useful to create a max compression backup locally, and then to replicate that well-encrypted backup out to the cloud.

Thank you for posting this fix. It's the "brain dead" stuff - why would Dell ever flipflop the Fn key settings? - that completely halted a frustrating over-the-phone folks-in-Florida tech support call. I was moments from sending their new 17R out to get the wireless card swapped. My deepest thanks to you and ... and a kick in the pants to somebody at Dell

@Deepthi - perl 5.6.1 is ancient (over ten years old) - I'd strongly recommend upgrading to a more recent version (5.10 or above, at least).

As for WWW::Mechanize, you can install it as you would any other CPAN module (using the <tt>cpan</tt> client, <tt>cpanm</tt> (cpanminus), or via your distro's package tools.

For example, if you were using Debian, you could use e.g. <tt>apt-get install libwww-mechanize-perl</tt>.

THANK YOU! This just stumped me and a colleague for several hours this morning. If only I'd had the foresight to actually Google first, this would have saved us a lot of hassle.

Some additional keywords to help Google rank this up a bit more...

Dell, Inspiron, kill switch, f2, wireless, wlan, networking

Once again... Thank you! :-D

Certainly possible it's a relay at fault; I'd be more surprised if it was the ECU, to be honest. The fact that you found a blown fuse before suggests to me it's more likely to be a wiring issue - but tracing the loom from the fan to the relay, fuse and ECU will probably be a pain in the arse.

If the Meriva is anything like some Vectras, there may be a "cooling control module" mounted somewhere near the front of the engine bay, likely down behind the bumper - this could be the culprit, possibly.

Have you checked if the fuse blew again? If so, maybe you have a wiring fault somewhere, or the fan motor is buggered, or something is obstructing the fan from turning, so it's causing the motor to pull too much current and blow the fuse. (If you have air con, there'll be two fans; the main cooling fan facing into the engine bay, and also one to the left of it and half behind the bumper, blowing air across the AC condensor)
