Excellent news – TFL has announced an 18 month trial of allowing motorcyclists to use many bus lanes on London’s main roads.
From 5 January 2009, an 18-month trial will allow motorcycles, mopeds, scooters and tricycles – but not those with sidecars – to travel in most red route bus lanes.
Drivers of these vehicles will be able to use red route bus lanes currently used by cyclists and taxi drivers during operational hours.

I think this is a sensible move by TFL, and look forward to slightly easier journeys!
It will be interesting to see if they limit the size of the bike engine being aloud to use the lane. I could imagine it could become quite dangerous for pedestrians if fast bikes are zooming up and down the bus lanes, in highly built up areas.
@Khaled – I don’t see what the engine size has to do with it – fast bikes can be ridden at the speed limit, and even your average 125cc bike can exceed the speed limit.
Most roads which are large enough to have bus lanes are big enough to have pedestrian crossings anyway.
