Pub review: Williams Ale and Wine House

by on Dec.21, 2007, under Uncategorized

Note: this was written a couple of years ago after one visit; also read my recent re-review.

At work we’ve been trying out various different pubs in the local area, so I thought it might be a good idea to do a mini review of each pub.

Williams Wine and Ale House

Today’s was the Williams Wine and Ale House in Artillery Row (which, despite the title of that BeerInTheEvening.com page, is not in Hoxton).

It was quite a nice pub, very popular and busy, with a decent atmosphere. We had a table booked (good job too). Unfortunately, whilst they got some of our group’s meals out in a reasonable time, some took way too long (>45 minutes) to come out. Each time we asked we were told they were very busy, had closed the kitchen to new orders, and it’d be along soon.

Fair enough they were catering to a rather large group who I assume were having a Christmas do, but they could still tell us at the start if it was going to take a long time, or whip ours out first (all three we were waiting for were simple meals).

The food was good when it did turn up, but the experience was somewhat marred by the letdown of waiting so long.
