Sexy new theme with K2!

As much as I liked the theme I was using before, Glued Ideas Subtle, I wanted to make my blog look, well, mine, rather than being identical to too many others.  Plus, my mate Jim said (probably quite rightly) that the flowery header image didn’t really suit me.

I’m now using K2, along with a custom stylesheet to make it look the way I like it. K2 is a follow-up to Kubrick, but vastly improved.  It acts more like a framework than just a simple theme, allowing sidebar “widgets” to be added + moved around etc, and allowing you to select the style you want (which is where the custom CSS comes in).

So far I’m very impressed with it.  It also has some very clever AJAXy magic which I will use when I move this blog to a faster server, but the current poor little VPS that it’s on is rather overloaded (as you may have noticed by the pig-slow loading of the site at times :().  Should soon have a half-decent server to move it to, then all will be well.   Until then, I can’t afford the performance hit of turning the shiny AJAX stuff on (as they would of course result in more roundtrips to the server, and more DB queries (particularly the AJAX search, which searches whenever you stop typing in the search box).

So, what do you think to the change?  Leave a comment and let me know :)

  1. I get a server error when clicking on the glued ideas link. I like the layout of the blog but I don’t feel the background image you have in the header of the clouds and sky fit what your blog is suppose to be about.

  2. Very impressive design. I’m a french web designer and I’m really fan of your work. I will try to make an analysis on my blog about the redesign of Duoh!. There are numbers of very interesting subtleties. Except the question of the design, I found some specificities in the XHTML coding and originalities in the manner of render the different pages. Your work is a great source of inspiration for me. I like the fact that your work causes debate and it’s what we want all around the web :) Respect for your job !

    I agree

  4. I want something sexy as a theme, but not something overly sexual. Something like “Leather and Lace” but something that is easier for EVERYONE to dress up. It’s in Autum.

  5. Haha nice theme. I had to laugh – Such things always make me smile/laugh. It’s very cool and also cool for you sharing it with us!

    Greetings,
    Ann

  6. The great thing about blogging is that it is a medium to express oneself. What better way to do this than to channel the blogger’s feelings, thoughts, and emotions to his blog. The blog represents the blogger’s mood at any point. Being able to manipulate and maneuver themes and visuals around your blog definitely improves the chances of representing the blogger’s thoughts at that point and not send out mixed emotions.
